Rua de Miragaia, Porto, Portugal
Rua de Miragaia, Porto, Portugal
42 x 17 x 5 cm
This house I found wondering around in the old section of Porto - and here most of the houses have the stone arches above the doors. This particular house has the laundry hanging to dry which added even more color to the already bright yellow house. Adding items like laundry, flags, or anything that blows in the wind, is always nice because it adds movement to the piece and gives your imagination another dimension to contemplate.
The wood is is from Crete Greece and is thick and heavy. I initially wanted to paint the opposite side of the wood - and thus ended up painting the base yellow on both sides. I changed my mind because the wood had a slanted top that matched the slope of the roof and was perfect for painting on the clay shingles. The roof gives this piece a very solid presence, and with it's thickness it can stand on it's own making it perfect for placement on a table or desk.
